Activities Each Year

2023 Activites funded and Appeal

Supporting the Tradition of Riding to Hounds

Hunt clubs provide re-enactments of the traditional hunt, unually in the spring and fall. These re-enactments are open to the public to view. Many re-enactments are held on land in town forests, and conservation land open to the public, The Norfolk Hunt Foundation supports the activity of hunting to hounds and events open to the public that increase public awareness of the importance of keeping land open for equestrian activity.

The Creation and Maintenance of Trails for Equestrian Sport

The Norfolk Hunt Foundation provides resources to those organizations that take an active role in keeping lands and trails open to the public for equestrian sport in general and the tradition of Riding to Hounds in particular. These efforts focus on lands in town forests, lands in conservation that allow access to the public for equestrian sport, and private lands that are open to the public for equestrian activity. The Charles River Valley is rich in farming and agricultural tradition including numerous horse farms that provide an opportunity to enjoy horseback riding in country open to the riding public. Urban sprawl threatens the availability of land for equestrian sport and public awareness of the loss of this land is important to keep it viable for generations to come.

The Norfolk Hunt Foundation encourages the next generation of youth and young adults in the Charles River Valley community to learn about the sport of Riding to Hounds and to attain the skills to be a safe rider on the hunt. This includes knowledge of horse care and grooming, knowledge and care of various kinds of horse tack, safety concepts while out riding, familiarity with the anatomy of the horse, and learning to safely ride on the hunt. Financial support is offered to make Riding to Hounds affordable to youth. Support is given to local organizations that teach riding skills such as local pony clubs under the auspices of The United States Pony Clubs, also a registered 501(c)(3) organization.

10 April 2022: The Norfolk Hunt Club and the Norfolk Hunt Foundation are pleased to announce that the Norfolk Hunt Foundation has underwritten spring capping fees at the Norfolk Hunt Club for all Junior Riders (under 18). This means that Juniors will not have to pay a Cap Fee to ride in any Norfolk Hunt this spring. Please make a donation so this type of support can continue.

The Norfolk Hunt Foundation offers resources for the care and welfare of foxhounds and the perpetuation of the historic breeds for hunting to hounds. The Hunt Clubs of New England perpetuate the breeds of hounds best suited to the sport. These clubs share hound pups amongst themselves to limit inbreeding and share the genetics of hounds found to be best fit for the activity. Some clubs maintain historic kennels dating back to the turn of the last century. The Norfolk Hunt Foundation supports the preservation of registered and other historic properties aligned with the sport of Riding to Hounds.
